One day in Chandigarh under 300 rupees…

I accepted the challenge to spend a whole day in Chandigarh under 300 rupees. Its always fun to travel solo, I was my first ever experience and I enjoyed the day… and that too in 300 rupees only… I used these money in buying food and roaming from one place to another… yeahhh it was fun… I dare you too accept this challenge now…. read my experience written here…

Chandigarh, the capital of the northern Indian states of Punjab and Haryana, was designed by the Swiss-French modernist architect, Le Corbusier. His buildings include the Capitol Complex with its High Court, Secretariat and Legislative Assembly, as well as the giant Open Hand Monument. The nearby Rock Garden is a park featuring sculptures made of stones, recycled ceramics and industrial relics.

So here started the journey…. I was in Solan last night. I took a bus from solan to chandigarh at 9 am morning… (that fare was extra 105 rupees.) I reached in chandigarh 43 bus stand by 11:30 am. ISBT 43 in chandigarh is really a big bus stand you can get buses to different states…the worst thing here is I was hungry this time but couldn’t eat anything in the bus stand, as the price of everything are hiked for no reason. Even the food stuff they are selling doesn’t even look fresh… as I am a little familiar with chandigarh so decided to visit my favourite prantha spot in chandigarh… I took a red coloured local bus from sector 43 and bought 20 rs ticket from conductor to drop me at sector 9… the bus was so comfortable at this price… and in area like chandigarh these buses are best for travelling in low budget. The local residents use to buy a pass for rs 60 or 75 and they recharge it… Tt took around 15 minutes to reach there… the final destination here was Badlu Sahu Dhabba…. its about 10 minutes walk from the bus stop…. I reached in the stall by 12:15 pm and ordered 2 paranthas… trust me these pranthas were so yummmm. Can you imagine a Paneer Parantha for just rupees 20 and raita (curd) at 20 rupees (total cost 80 rs). That too this mouth watering paranthas as you can see in the pictures…

Badlu de paranthe

After tasting these yummm paranthas I thought the Rockgarden plan should be next thing to do. I took the bus for sector 17 bus stand that costs me 20 rupees more… total cost (100) rupees. I reached at sector 17 bus stand by 2:00pm. To reach rock garden I was supposed to get another bus from ISBT-17. I caught again a red local bus, fare was 10 rupees. after 15 minutes I reached in the front gate of Rock garden Chandigarh…. Then entry gate looks so beautiful. I thought it would be free to get in but they cost me 30 rupees for entry but the beauty of the garden totally justify its entry fee.

Rock Garden Chndigarh
Wish well in Rock garden

The Rock Garden of Chandigarh is a sculpture garden in Chandigarh, India. It is also known as Nek Chand’s Rock Garden after its founder Nek Chand Saini, a government official who started the garden secretly in his spare time in 1957. Today it is spread over an area of 40 acres.

In his spare time, Nek Chand started collecting materials from demolition sites around the city. He recycled these materials into his own vision of the divine kingdom of Sukrani, choosing a gorge in a forest near Sukhna lake for his work. The gorge had been designated as a land conservancy, a forest buffer established in 1902 that nothing could be built on. Chand’s work was illegal, but he was able to hide it for 18 years before it was discovered by the authorities in 1975. By this time, it had grown into a 12-acre (4.9 ha) complex of interlinked courtyards, each filled with hundreds of pottery-covered concrete sculptures of dancers, musicians, and animals.

Now its 4:30 in the evening and still I am left with 150 rupees. and I am hungry again.. I know sector 15 is just 20 minutes walk distance. I took a call and reach there by about 5 pm. and went to the street food market there in sector 15. Its a best street food market in the chandigarh. The noodles they make are amazing… I just love the food they serve.

I ate those delicious looking noodles at just 40 rupees… They serves more than 50 types of noodles there. they also have momos, thuppa and almost all Chinese food and street food available.

Now its 7:30 in the evening the last spot I have to go is Sukhna Lake, the night view of the lake is soothing and so beautiful.
